Daemen, which has won 12 of its last 14 games, improved to 15-7 overall and 8-4 in the East Coast Conference. The visiting Firebirds saw their two-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 8-13 overall and 6-6 in the league. The Wildcats maintain their hold on third place in the league standings with four games left in the regular season. The Wildcats entered the game ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region poll. IMPACT PLAYERS Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats. Mason, who entered the game ranked second among ECC players in three-point field goal percentage, connected on his first five three-pointers today and finished 5-of-6 from downtown overall. He also contributed four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Junior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) scored in double figures for the ninth-straight game and totaled 16 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Junior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) played 23 minutes off the bench and registered his second double-double of the season. He connected on 5-of-9 shots and totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, seven blocks and two steals. His seven blocks is the most in a game by a player in the ECC this season. Senior Ryan Salzberg (Manlius, N.Y.) played a team-high 33 minutes and totaled nine points, six rebounds and five assists. Sophomore forward Hartnel Haye paced the Firebirds with 15 points and 11 rebounds. GAME NOTES Daemen has now prevailed in the last 12 meetings between the two schools and the Wildcats own a 17-2 advantage in the all-time series. Daemen entered the game ranked first among ECC teams in fewest points allowed per game (65.9) and has now limited 13 of its 22 opponents to less than 70 points. The Wildcats are 11-2 this season when they limit their opponent to less than 70 points. UDC outscored the Wildcats 12-5 over the first four minutes, but Daemen answered with a 17-7 tun and took a 22-19 lead following layup by Hemphill with nine minutes left before halftime. Daemen held a 27-26 when the Wildcats put together an 8-1 spurt. A three-pointer by Salzberg with four minutes left in the half capped the run and gave the hosts a 35-27 lead. Daemen would take a 38-32 lead into intermission. Daemen scored the first five points of the second half and the hosts later took a 57-42 lead with 10:54 left after Atkins dunked following a feed by freshman Justin Glover (Buffalo, N.Y.). The Wildcats took a 20-point lead 69-49, after Mason hit his fifth three-pointer of the game with 7:35 left and the Wildcats maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way. Mason entered the game just two three-pointers shy of 150 for his career. He is shooting 47-percdent (153-327) from three-point land for his career. Atkins, who did not register a block for just the second time all season during a win over Staten Island Friday night, recorded four of his seven blocks in the second half total. The seven blocks gives him 55 for the season and he becomes just the fifth player in program history to record 50 or more blocks in a season. Daemen shot 54-percent (15-for-28) from the field in the first half and finished 29-of-60 (48%) from the field overall. The Wildcats went 7-of-11 from three-point land in the opening half and finished 11-for-20 from downtown overall. It marked the second-straight game, and the eighth time his season they have made at least 10 triples in a game. Daemen went 10-of-16 from the charity stripe. UDC, which entered the game shooting a league-best 47-percent from the field on the season, connected on just 25-of-71 shots (35%). The Firebirds went 7-of-19 from downtown and made 10-of-12 free throws. Daemen finished with a 42-38 edge in total rebounds. The Firebirds finished with a 12-10 advantage in points off turnovers, while Daemen posted a 21-19 edge in second chance points and a 36-30 advantage in points in the paint.
