Nolet Earns Second ECC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Honor

2/6/2023 3:24:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) of Daemen University has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for competitions held January 30 – February 5. The announcement of ECC weekly awards was made this afternoon in the league's weekly sport report.

It marks the second time this season and third time in her career she has earned the honor. Nolet also earned the honor back on Dec. 12 after she placed third out of 21 runners in the mile at the Nazareth Alumni Opener. Prior to this season, she last earned ECC Track Athlete of the Week honors in February of 2020 after placing first in the 5,000 meters at the Brockport Multi.

She is one of only five athletes in the history of the Daemen women's track and field program to garner a weekly award from the ECC during the indoor track and field season—and the first to earn a weekly honor more than once. She joins past honorees Jordan Weir (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 11, 2013), Toria Williams (Field Athlete of the Week: Feb. 2, 2015), Mackenzie Donahue (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 8, 2016) and Katja Meyer (Field Athlete of the Week: Jan. 22, 2019).

Nolet helped the Wildcats place seventh out of 16 teams at the Brockport Multi Invitational this past Saturday on the campus of SUNY Brockport, as she posted a second place showing in the 3,000 meters and a fourth-place effort in the 800 meters.

Nolet ran the 3,000 meters for the first time this season and placed second out of 32 runners with a personal best time of 10:33.14—eclipsing her previous time at an indoor event of 10:41.63 that she posted at the Kane Invitational last year. She ran the 800 meters at an indoor event for the first time in her career and placed fourth out of 33 runners with a time of 2:22.16—just two seconds shy of the program record (2:20.48) set by Savannah Warner at the 2018 East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Nolet has run six races this season and has placed in the top four in all six races. She placed first in the mile at both the YSU Mid Major Invitational and the Highlander Invitational.

Nolet recently completed a memorable season with the Daemen women's cross country team. She collected first team All-ECC honors for the second-straight year and also became the first runner from Daemen to earn ECC Runner of the Year honors after placing first at the ECC Championships. A three-time all-conference performer in cross country, she led the Wildcat harriers to a third place showing at the NCAA Division II East Regional and a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships this fall.

The Daemen track & field teams will be idle until Feb. 19 when they head to Staten Island, N.Y. to take part in the ECC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
