Scime and Chon Collect ECC Weekly Honors 9/25/2023 3:34:00 PM By: CONTACT: Tom McDermott, Director of Athletics Communications | tmcdermo@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. – Junior Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) and freshman Maya Chon (Wichita, Kan.) of Daemen University have been honored by the East Coast Conferenc for their outstanding play last week. Scime was named the ECC Player of the Week and Chon ws tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week. The announcement of award winners was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon. It marks the second time this season and the third time in her career that Scime has been selected ECC Player of the Week. Last fall she became the first Daemen women's tennis player to be selected ECC Player of the Week since Christina Stasiuk in April of 2021. Scime went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles during a 1-1 week. She defeated Hui Jen Soo of Millersville University, an All-PSAC selection last year, 6-2, 6-0 during a 5-2 loss to the Marauders yesterday. Scime opened the week with a win at No. 2 singles and a win at No. 1 doubles during a 7-0 victory over D'Youville University. She has now won five of her last six singles matches and stands at 6-2 on the year. A product of Williamsville East High School, Scime recorded her 29th career singles win during the loss at Milliersville yesterday and ranks fifth among Daemen's all-time leaders in career singles wins. She is now 24-9 in her last 33 singles matches dating back to the end of her freshman season. Scime recorded her 20th career doubles win during the win over D'Youville, which makes her just the eighth player in program history to reach that milestone. Chon earns ECC Rookie of the Week for the first time. She went 1-1 at No. 5 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles during the week. She teamed up with junior Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) to earn a 6-4 win at second doubles and suffered a tough loss to fellow rookie Lauren Hayes (7-5, 4-6, 6-10) during the 5-2 loss to the Millersville yesterday. She opened the week with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles and a win at No. 2 doubles during the win over D'Youville. A product of Andover Central High School, Chon stands at 2-3 overall in singles play and 4-5 in doubles competition. She is undefeated (4-0) in dual match doubles play. Daemen stands at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in ECC play this season and returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 27) with a non-conference match at SUNY Fredonia.
