THE WILDCATS Daemen is coming off a successful run last week in which it played to a tie 1-1 tie at Chestnut Hill, rolled past Staten Island 6-1 and defeated Lake Erie 2-0. Daemen opened the 2023 season with non-conference losses to Assumption (2-0), American International (2-1) and nationally-ranked Saint Rose (3-2), before posting a 1-0 win over regionally-ranked Queens. The matchup with Queens was the East Coast Conference opener for both teams. Seven different players have scored for the Wildcats so far this season. Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) scored twice in the win over CSI and is tied for the league lead in goals (5). Freshman Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn,) scored her first collegiate goal in the loss to third-ranked Saint Rose and netted two goals in the win over CSI. Sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) has played every minute in goal thus far and is averaging seven saves per game. She leads the ECC in save percentage (.845) and made a career-high 12 saves in the 1-1 tie at Chestnut Hill. Daemen returns 19 players from last year and welcomes eight newcomers (six freshmen, two transfers) to the 2023 roster. Daemen went 5-1-1 over its final seven games last fall and earned its second-straight bid to the four-team ECC Championship tournament. The Wildcats suffered a 2-0 loss to eventual champion Mercy College in the semifinals. Daemen is ranked fourth in the 2023 ECC preseason coaches' poll. Five of the top six scorers return to the fold, including All-ECC selections Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.), Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). Diaz, a junior forward/defender, has earned all-conference honors in each of her first two seasons and totaled a team-high seven goals and 16 points last year. Scalisi has also collected All-ECC honors the past two seasons and has totaled nine goals and 28 points over her career. Miranto started 15 of 17 games as freshman last year and ranked second on the team in goals (5) and points (11). DAEMEN SWEEPS WEEKLY ECC HONORS Sophomores Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) and freshman Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) were honored by the East Coast Conference for their play last week. Miranto was selected the ECC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. Schultz was named the ECC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, while Carpenter was named ECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the first time. The announcement of award winners was made via the league's weekly sport report. THE LIONS Lincoln stands at 0-6-2 overall and 0-3-0 in the ECC. The Lions are coming off a 4-2 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas this past Wednesday. Lincoln went 1-13-0 overall (0-7-0 ECC) last year and were picked ninth in the 2023 ECC preseason coaches' poll. Junior Grace Quiah and freshman Jordan Allison have both scored a team-high two goals this season. Freshman Ariel Reyes has started all eight games and leads the ECC in total saves (77). She made 17 saves in a 4-0 loss to Roberts Wesleyan. SERIES HISTORY Sunday's contest will mark the sixth all-time meeting between Daemen and Lincoln. Daemen has prevailed in each of the previous five meetings, including a 6-0 win last year at Karrer Field. UP NEXT The Wildcats head to Bluefield (W.V.)
