Box Score WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Daemen University got back in the win column with a 7-0 victory over Molloy University in East Coast Conference women's tennis action Friday night at the Miller Tennis Center.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in ECC play while the Lions dropped to 1-9 and 0-4 in ECC play.
Daemen opened the contest by winning on all three doubles courts to claim the doubles point. The senior partnership of
Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) and
Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) secured a 6-0 sweep of Alice Fartusyanksa and Isabella Fortaleza.
The Wildcats continued their winning ways on the singles courts as graduate student
Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) secured a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Elena Baughman Saunders at No. 1 singles. Scime nabbed her team-leading seventh singles win of the year at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-1, decision against Erin Sanchez. She now sits five wins away from claiming the program record for singles wins with 50. Del Leon continued her winning ways from doubles with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Fortaleza at No. 3 singles while at No. 4 singles, junior
Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) collected a 6-1, 6-1, victory against Fartusyanksa. The freshman combination of
Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) and
Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) completed the 7-0 win for Daemen with identical 6-0, 6-0, results at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. For Baier, it marked her second victory this year where she won without dropping at set with the last instance coming on Sept. 28 at SUNY Fredonia.
