Box Score WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team fell to Rochester Institute of Technology, 6-1, in a non-league match at the Miller Tennis Center on Saturday night to move to 2-2 in the fall season.
After the Tigers picked up a No. 1 doubles win over Daemen junior
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and senior
Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico) in a 6-2 decision, the Wildcat No. 2 pairing of sophomores
Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) and
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) took RIT's Alexander Sinclair and Gabriel Escobar the distance, but the Tigers were able to outlast the Wildcats, 6-4. Junior
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) and senior
Jayven Williamson (Minneapolis, Minn.) fought hard in No. 3 doubles but fell to RIT's Christian Berko and Yu Tanimoto, 7-5. The Tigers took the first point of the match with the doubles sweep.
RIT won five of the six singles pairings. Lumanog dropped his first No. 1 singles match of the season, falling to Tanimoto, 6-2, 6-0. Alvarez earned the sole Daemen point of the match, defeating Grahith Movva, 6-3, 6-4, in a dominant second singles to move to 2-0 at the No. 2 spot this year. Garcia fell in No. 3 singles for the first time this season in a 6-4, 6-4 decision to RIT's Joel Pho. Mergens traded games with Sinclair at No. 4 singles, but the Tiger finished with a 7-6, 6-4 over the Wildcat sophomore. At fifth singles, Chitanand was the sole Daemen player to force a third set, but RIT's Luke Weber came out with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win to mark the first singles loss of the season for Chitanand. Williamson dropped sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0. In a non-scoring seventh singles,
Vondin Henderson fell to Brian Bork 6-4, 6-0.

The Wildcats will play three more matches in the fall, traveling down to Pennsylvania this upcoming week to play at Kutztown on Monday (Oct. 14) for a 2 PM match and taking on Millersville on Tuesday (Oct. 15) at 11 AM.
