St. Thomas Aquinas Takes Down Women's Tennis

Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. – Defending East Coast Conference Tournament champions St. Thomas Aquinas College defeated Daemen University, 7-0, in ECC women's tennis action Saturday morning at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.
 
With the win, the Spartans improved to 2-0 both overall and in conference play while the Wildcats slipped to 5-4 overall and 0-3 in ECC action.
 
St. Thomas Aquinas opened the contest by winning on all three doubles courts to secure the first point of the match. At No. 3 doubles, the partnership of junior Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) nearly came back to defeat Mar Caneves and Elise Semmartin, cutting their lead to as little as 4-3, but fell short, 6-3.
 
Moving to singles, 2023 All-ECC First Team Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) battled fellow first team selection Elita Silins at No. 2 singles, but ultimately lost, 6-2, 6-3.  At No.3 singles, senior Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) opened her match by taking an early 2-0 lead against Elisa Semmartin. Still, Semmartin came back to win the first set, 6-3 and eventually the match by a final score of 6-3, 6-0. The Spartans swept the remaining matches to seal the 7-0 victory.

The Wildcats return home to face Molloy University on Oct. 11. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. from the Miller Tennis Center.
