Daemen, which entered the game ranked eighth in the East Region by the Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC), improved to 19-7 overall and 9-4 in the ECC. The Mavericks dropped to 1-22 overall and 0-13 in the league. Daemen maintains its hold on third place in the ECC standings. It marks the first time Daemen has scored 100 or more points during a regulation game since the 2021-22 season. The 123 points were the most scored by the Wildcats since the program gained NCAA Division II status in 2015. The last time the Wildcats scored as many points was a 123-122 double overtime win over Cincinnati Christian University on Dec. 19, 2009 during the Malone University Tournament. Wildcats entered the game averaging 80.5 points per game. IMPACT PLAYERS Daemen finished with five players in double figures and 12 of the 13 players that saw action for the Wildcats scored in the game. Redshirt freshman Phil Nwugwo (Rochester, N.Y.) made the most of his career-high 17 minutes, as he connected on 9-of-10 shots and scored a career-high 20 points. Senior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) connected on 7-of-12 shots and totaled 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. Senior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) made 8-of-11 shots and totaled 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Fifth-year senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) went 3-of-4 from downtown and scored 16 points. He also registered five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Redshirt sophomore Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) played a season-high 14 minutes and scored a season-high 10 points. He also added four rebounds and three assists. Freshman Ryan Heath (Rochester, N.Y.) dished out a season-high six assists and scored six points, while redshirt freshman Ayden Harrison (Clifton Park, N.Y.) totaled six points and four rebounds in nine minutes. Senior Alex May paced the Mavericks with five three-pointers and 27 points. GAME NOTES Daemen remained unbeaten all-time (22-0) against the Mavericks. Daemen scored the first eight points of the game and later took a 20-8 lead following a three-pointer by MacDonald with 13:29 left in the first half. Mercy cut the lead to eight points, 24-16, after graduate student Garrett Kirkland hit a three-pointer two minutes later, but the Wildcats outscored the Mavericks, 30-11, over the next nine minutes. Daemen would take a 65-36 lead into intermission. Daemen drilled four three-pointers during a 16-4 run at the start of the second half. A triple by Fasoyiro five minutes into the frame capped the run and gave the hosts an 81-40 lead. Mercy came no closer than 37 points the rest of the way. Daemen finished 47-of-80 (58%) from the field overall and equaled its season-high for three-pointers (16-of-32). The hosts canned 13-of-16 free throws. The Wildcats have shot 29-of-63 (46%) from downtown and 41-of-45 (91%) from the charity stripe over the last two games. Mercy shot 39-percent (26-of-66) from the field overall and went 10-of-26 from downtown. The visitors connected on 13-of-17 from the charity stripe. The Wildcats posted a 70-14 advantage in bench points and the hosts also held the advantage in points off turnovers (20-13), second chance points (27-14) and points in the paint (58-24). Daemen also dished out a season-high 35 assists. NEXT JUMP BALL Daemen continues its four-game stretch of home games when it hosts the University of the District of Columbia on Thursday (Feb. 22).
