Daemen Concludes Play At The Wildcat Division II/III Invitational

Wildcats Win Two Of Three Matches Today And Finish Seventh

NEW CASTLE, Del. -  The Daemen University women's bowling team closed out play at the Wildcat Division II/III Invitational today. The The 13-team tournament featured six teams (Alvernia, Daemen, Emmanuel, Felician, Kutztown, Mercyhurst, ) that are ranked or receiving votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III Poll released Feb. 8. The tournament is being hosted by Wilmington University.

The Wildcats played three Baker format best-of-seven matches today. Daemen entered the day in eighth place and had a chance to finish as high as fifth if they went undefeated on the day. The Wildcats opened the day with a 4-3 loss to seventh-seeded Alvernia University. Daemen then rebounded with a 4-2 win over ninth-seeded Chestnut Hill College, which put the Wildcats in the seventh/eighth place match against sixth-seeded Caldwell University. Daemen closed out the weekend on a high note, as the Wildcats defeated Caldwell, 4-1, to claim seventh place. Tournament host Wilmington claimed the title following a 4-2 win over Kutztown University in the championship match.

Daemen earned its No. 8 seed in today's bracket round after posting 9,000 pins over the first two rounds. Wilmington sat atop the standings after the first two rounds with 10, 166 total pins.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The opening match of the day was a back-and-forth affair, as Alvernia won the first (190-163), third (226-180) and fifth (236-166) games, while Daemen prevailed in the games two (203-179), four (181-171) and six (180-164). Alvernia claimed win with a 224-201 win in the seventh game.
  • Daemen won the first three games against Chestnut Hill (183-166, 210-203, 214-162), before CHC rallied to win the next two games (210-172, 211-197). Daemen denied CHC the comeback with a convincing 260-159 win in game six.
  • Daemen prevailed in game one (220-204) and game two (221-202) against Caldwell, before the Cougars picked up a 189-170 win in game three. Daemen completed the win with a 234-196 win in game four and a 192-146 victory in game five.
  • Graduate student Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) totaled 1,065 pins for a 213.0 average during Saturday's traditional round. She placed seventh out of the 87 bowlers and missed earning a spot on the all-tournament team by just 21 pins.
  • Freshman Brenna Forsha (Tonawanda, N.Y.) competed in four of five matches during traditional play. She finished with an 886 total pinfall and a 221.5 average. Her average was highest among bowlers that competed in four matches and ranked fourth overall. Only bowlers that competed in all five matches were eligible for all-tournament honors.
UP NEXT
Daemen is now 38-26 on the year and is idle until the weekend of March 2-3 when the Wildcats travel to New York City to take part in the Dezy Strong Classic co-hosted by Adelphi University and Molloy University.
