Men's Tennis Hosts District Of Columbia Saturday 3/22/2024 9:52:00 AM AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's tennis team will open the East Coast Conference portion of its 2023-24 season this weekend when the Wildcats play host to the University of the District of Columbia. The match will be played at Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y. at 6:30 p.m. Daemen has won three of its last four matches and improved to 5-7 on the year following a 7-0 win over Saint Vincent College last weekend. Graduate student Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.), sophomore Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico) and freshman Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) have all totaled a team-high six singles wins on the year. Alvarez has won three of his last four singles matches. Freshman Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Colombia), who joined the team in December, has gone 4-3 in singles play during the spring portion of the schedule. Sophomore Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) has played No. 1 singles all season and has won two of his last three matches. Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) is also 2-1 over his last three singles matches. UDC (5-6, 0-2 ECC) dropped to 0-2 in the ECC following a 7-0 loss to Queens last Friday and is coming off a 5-2 non-league loss to Adelphi. After Saturday's match the Wildcats are idle until Match 29 when they host Division I Le Moyne College in their final non-conference match of the season. Daemen University features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
