Men's Tennis Hosts Le Moyne In Non-Conference Match Friday

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's tennis team will close out the non-conference portion of its 2023-24 season Friday (March 29) when the Wildcats play host to Le Moyne College. The match will be played at South Towns Racquet Club in Orchard Park, N.Y. at 12 p.m.

Daemen has won three of its last five matches. The Wildcats dropped to 5-8 overall and 0-1 in the East Coast Conference following a 7-0 loss to the University of the District of Columbia this past Saturday. Graduate student Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.), sophomore Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico) and freshman Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) have all totaled a team-high six singles wins on the year. Freshman Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Colombia), who joined the team in December, has gone 4-4 in singles play during the spring portion of the schedule. Sophomore Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) has played No. 1 singles all season and is 4-8 in singles play. Sophomore Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) is 4-9 in singles play.

Le Moyne (8-9, 3-4 NEC) is in its first season as a NCAA Division I program and is a member of the Northeast Conference. The Dolphins went 6-4 over the first 10 matches of the season, but are just 2-5 over their last seven matches. Le Moyne snapped a two-match losing streak following a 5-2 win over Merrimack this past Sunday. Junior Peter Halton has posted a 10-5 record in dual matches and is 13-7 overall at No. 1 singles. Graduate student Alvaro Nunez is 12-6 overall and 10-3 in dual matches at No. 3 singles.

After Friday's match the Wildcats are idle until April 6 when they travel to the University of the District of Columbia for an East Coast Conference match.
