Geoff Schneider Rodriguez Sets 400 Meter Hurdles Record At Brockport Outdoor Multi 4/14/2024 9:53:00 PM By: CONTACT: Tom McDermott, Director of Athletics Communications | tmcdermo@daemen.edu BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's track and field team continued its 2023-24 outdoor season by taking part in the Brockport Outdoor Multi held today on the campus of SUNY Brockport. A school-record effort by sophomore Alexis Rodriguez (Williamson, N.Y.) in the 400-meter hurdles and a second place showing by senior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) in the 5,000 meters and graduate student Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase highlighted the day for the Wildcats. HIGHLIGHTS Rodriguez competed in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles and posted a top-five finish in both events. She placed second out of 13 in the 400-meter hurdles with a program record time of 1:06.68. She eclipsed the previous record of 1:07.11 set by Kyra Kress at the 2018 Cortland Please Stop Snowing Invitational. Rodriguez nearly broke Kress' record earlier this year when she placed third at the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invitational with a time of 1:07.47. Rodriguez placed fourth out of 12 in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.06 seconds. Bailey was one of five Daemen runners in the 5,000 meters and she placed second out of 25 with a time of 18:44.34. Merrill competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time in her career and placed second out of eight entrants with a time of 12:10.09, which ranks as the third fastest time in the event in program history. Sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) took part in four events and posted a Top-15 finish in all four. She placed second out of 15 in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.89 seconds, which ranks as the fourth fastest time in program history. She also placed sixth out of 31 in the 100 meter dash (13.08 seconds), sixth in the triple jump (10.41 meters) and 14th in the long jump (4.62 meters). Sophomore Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) competed in the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters. She placed ninth in the 1,500 (5:07.22) and third in the 5,000 (18:52.40). Graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) ran the 400 meters for the first time in her career and placed sixth out of 22 with a time of 1:02.63. She also ran the 5,000 meters for the first time this season and placed sixth with a personal best time of 19:09.74. Junior Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) also ran the 5,000 meters and placed eighth with a personal best time of 19:18.25. Sophomore Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.) was the lone Daemen entrant in the 800 meters and placed eighth out of 40 with a personal best time of 2:30.41. Freshman Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) was one of four Daemen entrants in the hammer throw. She set the program record for the hammer throw last week (43.93 meters) and placed sixth out of 30 this week with a throw of 43.39 meters, which ranks as the second best effort in program history. Graduate student Tima Abdellatif (Grand Island, N.Y.) placed second among Daemen throwers and 12th overall in the hammer throw (38.20 meters). Daemen's 4x100 relay team of Rodriquez, Schultz, sophomore Grace Gominiak (Darien Center, N.Y.) and freshman Abbie Herman (Hamburg, N.Y.) placed first out of two teams with a time of 52.17 seconds, which ranks as the eighth fastest time in program history. Daemen's 4x400 relay team of Rodriquez, Gominiak, Herman and Oates placed fourth out of seven teams with a time of 4:26.61. UP NEXT Daemen returns to action next Saturday (April 20) when it heads across town to take part in the University at Buffalo Alumni Invitational.
