Geoff Schneider Women's Track & Field Places Third At UB Alumni Invitational 4/20/2024 10:26:00 PM By: CONTACT: Tom McDermott, Director of Athletics Communications | tmcdermo@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's track and field team continued its 2023-24 outdoor season today by taking part in the University at Buffalo Alumni Invitational at UB Stadium. Daemen placed third out of nine schools. The host Bulls of Buffalo placed first with 212 points, followed by Niagara (120), Daemen (89), D'Youville (62.5), Canisius (48), Le Moyne (48), Colgate (39.5), St. Bonaventure (39) and Hilbert (3). Third-place efforts by graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) in the 800 meters and freshman Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) in the hammer throw highlighted the day for the Wildcats. Daemen also got top five efforts by Oliver in the shot out, sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Alexis Rodriguez (Williamson, N.Y.) in the 400-meter dash, graduate student Tima Abdellatif (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the hammer throw and sophomore Samantha Kabel (Alexander, N.Y.) in the discus. HIGHLIGHTS Thomas placed third out 28 runners in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:20.89, eclipsing her previous best time of 2:21.07 she set at this same event last year. Her time today ranks as the second best in program history, behind only the program record of 2:19.62 set by Hannah Rice at the 2015 ROC City Classic. Oliver took part in the hammer throw and the shot put today and was the top Daemen finisher in both events. The program record holder for the hammer throw (43.93 meters), she placed third out of 14 in that event today with a throw of 41.22 meters, which ranks as the fourth best mark in program history. Oliver now owns three of the top four marks in program history. She placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 10.29 meters. Schultz nearly broke her program record for the 100-meter hurdles, as she placed fourth out of 16 entrants with a time of 15.80 seconds, coming just shy of the program standard (15.78) she set at the Brockport Outdoor Multi last year. Rodriguez competed in three events today. She ran the 400-meter dash for the first time in her career and placed fourth out of 13 with a time of 1:03.24. She also placed 12th in the 200-meter dash (27.99 seconds) and 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (16.64 seconds). Abdellatif competed in the hammer throw and the javelin. She placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 40.07 meters, which ranks as the eighth best mark in program history. She placed 10th in the javelin with a personal best throw of 20.71 meters. Kabel competed in the discus, hammer throw and javelin and was the top Daemen finisher in the discus and the javelin. She placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 30.80 meters, which ranks as the 10th best effort in program history. She also placed eighth in the javelin (21.53 meters). Senior Camry Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) was the top Daemen finisher in the 1,500 meters and placed 10th out of 34 overall with a time of 4:56.09. She also placed 13th in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:28.31. Sophomore Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) competed in the 5,000 meters for the third time this season and placed sixth out of 23 runners with a time of 18:58.91. Junior Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) also ran the 5,000 meters and placed 10th with a personal best time of 19:14.36. Sophomores Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Hayley Pizur (Grand Island, N.Y.) also posted personal best efforts today. Oates in the 1,500 meters (5:03.01) and Pizur in the 5,000 meters (20:55.86). Freshman Abbie Herman (Hamburg, N.Y.) competed in three events and posted a personal best time in all three. She ran the 100-meter dash in 14.52 seconds, the 100-meter hurdles in 18.82 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:19.54. Junior Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) was the top Daemen finisher in both the long jump (4.83 meters) and the triple jump (9.92 meters). UP NEXT The Wildcats are idle until May 2 when they take part in the 2024 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan University.
