Women's Track & Field Places Third At ECC Outdoor Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's track and field team closed out its 2024 outdoor season today by placing third out of eight teams at the 2024 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event was hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University.

The University of the District of Columbia posted 176 points to claim the title for the first time since 2014. Roberts Wesleyan, which saw its streak of eighth-straight titles snapped, placed second with 139 points and Daemen finished third (101). D'Youville University (86), St. Thomas Aquinas College (52), Molloy University (44), Queens College (32) and the College of Staten Island (19) rounded out the standings.

First-place efforts by junior Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) in the 10,000 meters and sophomore Alexis Rodriguez (Williamson, N.Y.) in the 400-meter hurdles highlighted the day for Daemen. Additional medalists included sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.), senior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.), graduate student Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.), freshman Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) and graduate student Tima Abdellatif (Grand Island, N.Y.).

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Cain kicked off the day by placing first in the 10,000 meters with a time of 41:12.95. She becomes the fourth Daemen runner in program history to win the 10,000 meters at the ECC Outdoor Championships.
  • Rodriguez competed in two individual events and two relays today. She placed first out of 13 entrants in the 400-meter hurdles with a program-record time of 1:04.49, breaking the previous record of 1:06.68 she set at the Brockport Outdoor Multi earlier this year. She becomes the first Daemen athlete to win the 400-meter hurdles at the ECC Outdoor Championships. She qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles after placing sixth out of 10 in the preliminary round with a time of 17.11 seconds. She would place fifth in the finals with a time 16.69 seconds.
  • Schultz took part in three individual events and one relay. She qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles after placing second out of 10 in the preliminary round with a school-record time of 15.62 seconds. She would break the school record again in the finals, as she placed third with a time of 15.54 seconds. She now owns seven of the top 10 100-meter hurdle times in program history. She also placed sixth out of 17 entrants in the long jump with a leap of 5.04 meters, which ranks third best in program history. She also placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.80 meters.
  • Bailey competed in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters and posted a top-five effort in both events. She was the top Daemen finisher in the 1,500 meters and placed fourth out of 17 overall with a time of 4:56.02. She then placed third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:22.80.
  • Merrill took part in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for just the second time in her career and placed second out of five entrants with a time of 11:50.82, which ranks as the third fastest time in program history.
  • Graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) ran the 800 meters for the 16th time in her career and placed fourth out of 11 entrants with a school-record time of 2:18.61, eclipsing the previous standard of 2:19.62 set by Hannah Rice at the 2015 ROC City Classic. Thomas now owns three of the top five 800-meter times in program history.
  • Sophomore Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) competed in the 5,000 meters for the fourth time this season and placed fourth with a time of 19:35.69. Sophomore Grace Gominiak (Darien Center, N.Y.) placed fifth out of 12 entrants in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 1:04.58. Sophomore Hayley Pizur (Grand Island, N.Y.) ran the 10,000 meters for just the second time in her career and placed fourth with a personal time of 44:48.55. Sophomore Alexis Nguyen (Grand Island, N.Y.) took part in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second time amd placed fourth with a personal best time of 13:17.36.
  • Oliver capped off an outstanding rookie season. She placed second in the hammer throw with a program record toss of 44.27 meters, eclipsing the previous record of 43.93 meters she set at the Dave Labor Invitational earlier this year. Oliver now owns four of the top six hammer throw marks in program history. She also took part in the shot put and placed sixth with a personal best throw of 10.47 meters, which ranks as the 10th best mark in program history.
  • Abdellatif competed in the hammer throw and the javelin. The defending champion in the hammer throw, she placed third this season with a toss of 41.54 meters, which ranks as the fifth best mark in program history. She placed 15th in the javelin with a personal best throw of 21.34 meters.
  • Junior Elizabeth Bentley (Belmont, N.Y.) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a personal best throw of 39.75 meters and finished ninth in the discus (28.13 meters). Sophomore Samantha Kabel (Alexander, N.Y.) competed in the discus, hammer throw and javelin and posted a personal best mark in the discus and the hammer throw. She placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 33.78 meters, which ranks as the third best toss in program history. She placed seventh in the hammer throw (37.12 meters).
  • Freshman Brianne Repolio (Hadden Heights, N.J.) made her collegiate debut today. She placed first among Daemen throwers in the javelin and 10th out of 22 overall with a mark of 27.28 meters, which ranks as the second-best effort in program history behind the program record of 28.99 meters set by Amina McCrary in 2012.
  • Junior Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) was the top Daemen finisher and placed sixth overall in the triple jump (10.47 meters). She also placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 4.98 meters, which ranks as the seventh best mark in program history.
  • Daemen's 4x100 relay team of Rodriguez, Schultz, D'Naesha Quicksey (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Abbie Herman (Hamburg, N.Y.) placed sixth with a time of 52.62 seconds.
  • Daemen's 4x400 relay team of Rodriguez, Gominiak, Thomas and Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 4:25.52.
  • Daemen's 4x800 relay team of Merrill, Oates, Bailey and Thomas placed second with a program record time of 9:54.62.
