Women's Tennis Defeats Nazareth for Third Consecutive Win

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's tennis won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to defeat Nazareth University, 6-1, in intercollegiate women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Annette Shapiro Tennis Courts.
 
The Wildcats, winners of three straight, improved to 3-0 while the Golden Flyers move to 1-1 on the young season. The win also marked the second consecutive year under head coach Richard Greco that Daemen has won three consecutive matches to begin their season.
 
Daemen claimed the doubles point by picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of junior Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) won their team-leading third doubles match as a pair and won without dropping a game for the second time this season.
 
 At No. 1 singles, graduate student Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) downed reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week Catherine Zak, 6-2, 6-1. East Coast Conference Player of the Week Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) swept McKenna Ellis without dropping a set, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Scime, who now is nine wins away from the program record for singles wins, has not dropped a game in three straight sets. On No. 3 singles, fellow senior and ECC honor roll recipient, Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.), defeated Sarah Stone, 6-1, 6-1. Armitage paired her doubles win with a 6-0, 6-1, victory over Victoria Cioni at No. 4 singles. Freshman Zoe Geietmann (Hamburg, Germany) made her collegiate singles debut at No. 5 and earned her first collegiate singles win with a 6-0, 7-5, victory over Ali Klee. Anna Spencer earned the lone win of the day for the Golden Flashes as she defeated Lily Goodemote (Saquoit, N.Y.), who was also making her collegiate singles debut, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
