Wildcats Drop Road Match at Niagara

Box Score LEWISTON, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season, losing 6-1 on the road to Niagara University in intercollegiate women's tennis action Saturday morning at the Niagara Tennis Courts.
 
The Purple Eagles earned their first win of the 2024 campaign while the Wildcats moved to 3-1 on the young season.
 
Niagara opened the match by winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
 
On the singles courts, senior Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) earned a point back for the Wildcats, defeating Mercedes Velasco, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4,at No. 2 singles. With the win, Scime remained undefeated in singles matches during the 2024 season and moved to within eight wins of the program record for singles victories. On the other courts, the Purple Eagles picked up wins on No. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles to seal their 6-1 season-opening victory.
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats are back home on Sept. 20 against the University of the District of Columbia for their first ECC match of the year. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Miller Tennis Center.
