Women's Tennis Suffers Setback to District of Columbia

Box Score WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to the University of the District of Columbia in the first East Coast Conference women's tennis match for both teams.
 
The Firebirds improved to 1-0 both overall and in conference play on the year while the Wildcats moved the 3-2 and 0-1 in ECC action.
 
District of Columbia began the match by winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
 
At No.1 singles, graduate student Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) earned her third  singles win of the year as she defeated Desire Parn, 6-3, 6-3. The San Diego, Calif, native, has earned all three of her singles wins this season at No. 1. Freshman Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill. turned in a solid effort at No. 5 singles, but suffered a 7-5, 6-2 loss to Lina Benjelloun. The Firebirds took the remaining five singles matches to secure the 6-1 victory in each team's ECC opener.
