Box Score WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's tennis team earned a hard fought 4-3 win over West Virginia Wesleyan University in the first meeting between both schools Friday Night at the Miller Tennis Center.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 4-2 overall while the Bobcats dropped to 0-2.
Daemen claimed the doubles point as the duo of graduate student
Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman
Bella Bjerkan (Elmurst, Ill.) earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles while at No. 2 doubles, seniors
Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) and
Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) took home a close 7-5 win.
At singles, freshman
Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) secured Daemen's first single win of the evening in a 6-3, 6-2, decision over Emma Rusiecki. West Virginia Wesleyan tied the match, 2-2, with wins at No. 4 and 5 singles. At No. 2 singles, Scime earned her fifth win of the year with a 6-3, 6-4, win over Sneha Sundaraneedi. She is now sits seven wins away from the program record for singles wins and takes sole posession of fourth all-time with 43 victories. At No. 1 singles, Rubio dropped a hard fought, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 decision to Dominique Jansen. Daemen secured the 4-3 win at No. 3 singles as Del Leon outlasted Hailey Banda, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
