Women's Soccer Topped By Molloy

AMHERST, N.Y. — Macayla Hansen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored a late goal, but the Wildcats could not find an equalizer as Daemen fell to Molloy 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Royal Park. The Wildcats had another strong showing by goalkeeper Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.), who recorded 12 saves

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Molloy capitalized on a chance in the 8th minute when Sarah Cavallo scored, assisted by Isabella Muro, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
  • Hansen converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute to cut the lead to one at 2-1. 
  • The Lions added another goal by Emma Beattie in the 87th minute, extending their lead.
  • The first half began with Daemen establishing an early offensive presence as Kaitlyn Wright's (Geneva, N.Y.) shot was saved by Molloy's goalkeeper, Elyse Munoz, in the opening minute.
  • Hansen had two chances in the first half, firing shots in the eighth and 31st minutes, but she could not find the back of the net on either. 
  • Despite generating several opportunities, including a corner kick, Daemen was unable to score in the first half. 
  • Daemen's defense, led by goalkeeper Schultz, responded by thwarting multiple attempts from the Lions, including a series of saves that kept the deficit at a single goal.
  • Despite a shot on goal by Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) later in the half, Daemen was unable to find the equalizer before halftime. 
  • The second half began with Daemen under defensive pressure as the Lions initiated a series of attempts, but Schultz made crucial saves to keep the scoreline intact. 
  • Marisa Rickard (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) had a shot in the 64th minute that landed wide.
  • Casey Keller (Haddon Heights, N.J.) ripped a shot in the 82nd minute that was saved. 
  • Molloy's Abigail Smith received a red card in the 88th minute, putting the Lions down a player. 
GAME NOTES
  • Schultz recorded 12 saves during the match, facing 22 shots. It marked her fifth straight game with double digit saves. 
  • Wright added pressure with two shots, one of which was on target.
  • Hansen netted her third goal of the season. She contributed three shots, with one shot on goal.
