Box Score ERIE, Pa. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team dropped their first road match of the spring in a 7-0 decision at Division I Mercyhurst University on Monday afternoon. The Wildcats drop to 2-7 on the year and 0-2 in the spring season.
The Daemen No. 1 doubles team of junior
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and senior
Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico) picked up their second doubles win of the season, taking down Mercyhurst's top pair of Danylo Rekun and Mykhailo Polishuk in a 6-4 decision. That would be the Wildcats' only win of the afternoon as the Lakers would take second and third doubles to take the first point of the match. Junior
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) and sophomore
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) battled in No. 2 doubles but Mercyhurst pulled away with the 6-3 victory. Senior
Jayven Williamson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and freshman
Vondin Henderson (Tonawanda, N.Y.) fell in No. 3 doubles, 6-0.Â
Mercyhurst won all six singles matches today. Alvarez fought to win his second straight No. 1 singles match but could not overcome Rekun, falling 6-2, 6-4 in top singles. In No. 2 singles, Lumanog fell to Lukas Cabue (6-2, 6-2) while Chitanand dropped third singles, 6-2, 6-0, to Colmn Schultz. Garcia, Williamson and Henderson all fell (6-1, 6-0 in all matches) in No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles today.Â
