Women's Tennis Defeated by Division I Mercyhurst

Box Score WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's tennis team dropped their first match of the spring season to Division I Mercyhurst, 7-0, in intercollegiate women's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center. 

With the win, the Lakers earned their first win of the year and improved to 1-1 while the Wildcats dropped to 9-6. 

Mercyhurst began the afternoon by winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. The duo of junior Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) and Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) fought to win their team-leading seventh doubles win of the year, but lost 6-3 to the Lakers combination of Roisin Murphy and Sara Bertolez Puente.

Moving to singles, senior Emily Jablonski (Alden, N.Y.) made her second appearance of the year, playing at No. 6 singles against Sierra Rodgers of Mercyhurst. The Alden, N.Y., native could not overcome Rodgers, falling 6-3, 6-3. The Lakers did not drop any matches during the singles portion of the afternoon to seal the 7-0 win for their first victory of the year.

#2 - Rogova and Mrvaljevic (MER) def. Bella Bjerkan and Zoe Gietmann (DAE), 6-1
#3 - Brown and Rodgers (MER) def. Yinett Del Leon and Jablonski (DAE), 6-0

#2 - Murphy def. Armitage, 6-1, 6-2
#3 - Puente def. Bjerkan, 6-2, 6-1
#4 - Brown def. Baier, 6-0, 6-2
#5 - Mrvaljevic def. Gietmann, 6-0, 6-0
#6 - Rodgers def. Jablonski, 6-3, 6-3
