Box Score WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's tennis team earned their first win of the spring slate with a 5-2 victory over
Shippensburg Saturday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center.
With the win, the Wildcats
impvoed to 10-6 while
Shippensburg dropped to 4-3. The Wildcats 10 wins also match the program record for wins in a season which was set during the 2017-18 campaign.
Daemen opened the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. The duo of senior
Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Zoe
Gietmann (Hamburg, Germany) defeated Kendall Winters and
Brinley Orris in straight sets, 6-0.
In singles action, Del Leon kept her hot streak going as she earned her first collegiate win at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Corinne Markovich. Junior
Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) secured her first win of the spring with a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Yasmin De Meyer at No. 2 singles. Moving to No. 3 singles, freshman
Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) downed Jade Miller, 6-4, 6-0, while at No. 4 singles, fellow freshman
Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) collected the Wildcats third, 6-0, 6-0 victory of the afternoon with her triumph over Rachel Gallagher. The Raiders earned wins at No. 5 singles and at the No. 6 court,
Emily Jablonski (Alden, N.Y.) dropped a hard fought 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 decision to Ava Kalist.
