Women's Tennis Competes at Bloomsburg Invitational

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — The Daemen University women's tennis team opened its fall season by competing at the Bloomsburg Invite on Friday and Saturday.
Marley Conover (San Luis Obispo, Calif), Ashley Bonilla (Flushing, N.Y.), Lily Goodemote (Sauquoit, N.Y.), and Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) all earned singles wins for the Wildcats.  Conover also teamed up with Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) for a doubles win.
 
DAY 1
  • Friday's action opened with doubles. Daria Nakonechna and Lia-Sophie Seele of Bloomsburg took a 6-2 win over Daemen's Conover and Baier.The second doubles match saw Bloomsburg's Sarah Buck and Madeline Delisio take down Dania Mehani (Amherst, N.Y.) and Goodemote 6-1. The duo of Bjerkan and Bonilla fell to Rachell Gallagher and Brinley Orris of Shippensburg, also 6-2, closing out the doubles action.
  • In singles, Conover started the Wildcats out strong, defeating Bloomsburg's Nakonechna 7-5, 3-6 (10-6). Baier fell 6-0, 6-2 to Seele of Bloomsburg.
  • Bloomsburg's Buck then earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mehani, while Delisio closed out Goodemote 4-2, 4-1 in their match.
  • Daemen earned another win later when Bjerkan defeated Rachell Gallagher from Shippensburg 6-2, 6-4. The final singles match was claimed by Shippensburg's Brinley Orris, who beat Bonilla 6-4, 6-2. 
DAY 2
  • During Saturday's double play, East Stroudsburg's Bega Gotor and Claudia Ermina downed Nadja Emmendorfer (Clarence, N.Y.) and Bayisenge Marie-Claire (Syracuse, N.Y.) 6–2. Daemen's Conover and Baier earned a win over East Stroudsburg's Lea Stefanovik and Arile Kelsick by a 6–3 margin.
  • The team of Bjerkan and Bonilla fell 6–2 to West Liberty's Sanchita Dabas and Kayley. Mehani and Goodemote dropped a 6–2 decision to West Liberty's Mia Camilletti and Gabi Pasco.
  • In singles, Emmendorfer dropped a 4–0, 4–1 decision to East Stroudsburg's Gotor. Ermina defeated Marie-Claire 6–0, 6–2. East Stroudsburg's Stefanovik beat Conover 5–4(4), 4–2.
  • Kelsick downed Baier 4–1, 4–2, and Daemen's Goodemote picked up a 4–2, 1–4, 11–9 victory over West Liberty's Pasco. Finally, Dabas earned a 5-3, 4-0 victory over Bjerkan, and Bonilla beat Gibson 5–3, 5–3.
The Wildcats are back in action Sunday, hosting Nazareth at 3 p.m.
