Women's Soccer Downs Bentley

AMHERST, N.Y. — Daemen University (2-2) secured a 3-1 victory over Bentley University (2-2-1) on Tuesday afternoon at Royal Park after Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) scored twice for the Wildcats.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kaitlyn Wright (Geneva, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Wildcats with a goal in the 19th minute, assisted by Macayla Hansen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), putting the home team ahead 1-0. Hansen played a ball in on a corner that Wright sent home.
  • Miranto extended the Wildcats' lead to 2-0 with her first goal in the 38th minute, putting a shot past the Falcon's goalie off of a pass from Victoria DiCarlo (North Tonawanda, N.Y.).
  • Sydney DeRoche scored for Bentley, narrowing the gap to 2-1 with a quick goal just 31 seconds into the second half.  
  • Miranto then scored her second of the game in the 56th minute when Kaitlin Mettler (Royalton, N.Y.) played a through ball that got the senior free as she slotted a shot into the back of the net, bringing the score to 3-1 in Daemen's favor.
  • Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) made a series of crucial saves, denying Bentley's Megan Daly at 22:46 and two consecutive attempts by the Falcons following.
  • Miranto had two other shots in the first half that she could not convert.
  • Schultz continued her solid performance with another save against the Falcons' Maddy LePage at 37:24, maintaining the lead into the halftime break.
  • Daemen had additional opportunities to add to its lead in the second half, including Hansen putting one over the crossbar in the 87th minute.
  • Schultz also made two more crucial saves for the Wildcats in the second, stopping shots in the 67th and 72nd minutes.
GAME NOTES
  • Miranto led the offensive charge, scoring twice from six shots, with three of those on target, including the game-winning goal.
  • Hansen, Mettler, and DiCarlo all logged their first career points with assists. 
  • Schultz anchored the defense with nine saves, conceding only one goal in the match and earning her second win of the season.
  • Miranto's performance put her at 37 career goals, ranking third all-time in program history. She now has 88 career points, closing in on becoming the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career points.
  • Miranto logged the 10th multi-goal game of her career. She also notched her second game-winning goal of the season, and the 12th of her career.
