Women's Soccer Earns First ECC Win

AMHERST, N.Y. — Daemen (3-2-0, 1-0-0) secured a decisive 3-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas (0-6-0, 0-1-0) at Royal Park, with all three goals scored in the first half.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) opened the scoring for Daemen in the fourth minute, with an assist from Marisa Rickard (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), putting the home team up 1-0.
  • Macayla Hansen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) extended Daemen's lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute.
  • Daemen's offense continued to press, as Miranto scored her second goal of the match in the 34th minute, assisted by Kaitlin Mettler (Royalton, N.Y.), increasing the lead to 3-0.
  • The Spartans struggled to break through, with only one shot registered in the half, while Daemen's defense and goalkeeper Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) kept a clean sheet.
  • In the 47th minute, Mettler initiated the attack with a shot on target that got saved by the Spartans' goalkeeper.
  • Miranto consistently pressured the visitors' defense, recording four shots in the second half, including a close attempt in the 73rd minute that struck the top woodwork.
  • Daemen's offensive efforts also included multiple shot attempts, as Victoria DiCarlo's (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) strike at 81:05 was saved by the keeper.
GAME NOTES
  • Miranto logged the 12th multi-goal game of her career. She now has 92 career points, closing in on 100 career points. She scored the game-winner, marking her third game-winner this season.
  • Schultz recorded the 14th shutout of her career.
  • Hansen's goal was the first of her career. 
  • Wright posted three shots, with two on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.
  • Mettler recorded an assist and registered three shots, one of which was on target.
  • The Wildcats have won three straight and four of their last five ECC openers.
