Men's Tennis Falls To Niagara In Fall Home Opener

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. -- In the first Daemen University men's tennis match ever played at the brand new Royal Park Sports Complex, the Wildcat men fall to Division I Niagara University, 6-1, on Sunday morning in a fall non-league match. The Wildcats open the fall season with a 0-1 record.

Niagara earned the first point of the match by winning all three doubles pairings. Daemen's top doubles duo of senior Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and junior Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) fell 1-6. In second doubles, junior Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) and senior Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) fell 3-6. In the final doubles match up, sophomore Riley Fitzgerald (Auburn, N.Y.) and freshman Mitch Pollack (Winnepeg, Man.) fell, 1-6, in No. 3 doubles.

Chitanand would be the only Wildcat to come out on top today, earning Daemen's sole point after defeating Niagara's Sharvan Somasi (6-2, 6-3) in No. 4 singles for his first singles win of the season. Niagara would go on to win the other five singles match ups to take the match, 6-1.
