AMHERST, N.Y. — The Daemen University men's and women's track and field teams are back in action Saturday, competing at the Highlander Invitational, hosted by Houghton University.

This will be the second time this season that the Wildcats are making the trip to Kerr-Pegula Field House after opening their indoor campaign at the Houghton December Classic on Dec. 5.

Daemen competed at the Highlander Invite last season. The men earned two gold medals and a second-place result, while the women earned a gold medal and recorded two second-place results.

Last weekend, Daemen resumed its season at the Brockport Invitational. CJ Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) led the Wildcat men with two top-three finishes.

The junior has placed in the top three in every event he has competed in this season. He was named ECC Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 9.

Ethan Keating (Wooster, Ohio) took fourth in the mile with a time of 4:28.67, topping his previous PR by nine seconds and logging the second-best time in program history. In the 60m hurdles, Devon Mendez (Hartford, Conn.) placed fifth in the final with a time of 8.98 seconds. Off the track, Owen Dernbach (Alden, N.Y.) took ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.14m.

The Wildcat women had a bronze medal result from Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) while Skylar Savage (Attica, N.Y.) and Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) each posted fourth-place finishes. Schultz finished third in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 9.97 seconds. Savage recorded a fourth-place result in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 8.36 seconds. Oberholzer came in fourth in the 3000m run, finishing in 10:58.22.
