Wildcats Fall at Red Flash Invitational

LORETTO, Pa. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (21-25, 21-25, 19-25) to New Jersey Institute of Technology at the Red Flash Invitational this afternoon. Tomorrow's match against Queens University (N.C.) has been canceled due to weather.

The Wildcats fall to 0-5 on the season, while the Highlanders improve to 3-6 on the year.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Redshirt sophomore Patrick Mullen led the team in kills with 13 while registering a .360 hitting percentage. He added three assists and two block assists, while tallying one of the team's nine aces.
  • Junior Jariel Giraud finished with a team-high 22 assists and four digs. He recorded four kills and hit .667 for the match.
  • Redshirt sophomore Peter Leicht paced the team in aces with a team-high four and added two kills in the process.
  • Fifth year Maverick O'Neill tallied six kills and sophomore teammate Aidan White finished with five of his own.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The opening set was a battle as both teams went back and forth where they were either tied or in front by no more than a point until NJIT grabbed a one-point lead. With the Wildcats trailing 18-17, NJIT was able to put together 7-4 run to take the set 25-21.
  • Looking to bounce back in set two, Daemen grabbed an early 3-2 lead, but NJIT rattled off the next three points to go in front 5-3. Similar to the first set, both teams exchanged points to find themselves tied at 16.  NJIT closed out the set on a 9-5 run to win 25-21 and go up 2-0 in the match.
  • Similar to the first two sets, the third set stayed close to where both teams were tied nine times with the last one being at 10. NJIT was able to build some separation, but the Wildcats cut the lead to one to trail 19-18 before a 6-1 run closed the set out to secure the 25-19 NJIT victory and take the match 3-0.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats are back home on Tuesday when they host conference rival Roberts Wesleyan University at 6 p.m.
