A group of athletes will participate in the YSU Mid Major Invitational on Friday before joining the rest of the team at the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup on Saturday. Daemen competed at the YSU Mid Major last season, with the women logging two top-five finishes and the men posting two 12th-place results. Last weekend, the Wildcats had standout performances at the Highlander Invitational. The women recorded 16 top-five finishes, winning four events and earning six silver medals and three bronze medals. The men posted six top-five finishes, including two silver medal performances and one third-place result. Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) recorded a personal-best time of 10:47.77 in the 3000m, earning her first gold medal of the season. She was named ECC Track Athlete of the Week for her performance. Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) won the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.73 seconds, earning a spot on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll. In the throwing pit, Julia Petry (Batavia, N.Y.) won the shot put with a personal-best toss of 11.47m. The junior also finished second in the weight throw with a PR toss of 13.58m. Petry was also named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll. Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) won the weight throw with a toss of 15.36m. Mia Wright (Liverpool, N.Y.) placed second in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash. In the 60m, she posted a time of 8.10 seconds. Wright posted a 200m time of 26.82 seconds. For the men, Simon Evans (Galway, N.Y.) logged two top-five finishes. He earned a bronze medal in the mile, finishing in 4:35.35 and marking the first top-three finish of his collegiate career. Evans then placed fourth in the 3000m, coming in at 9:23.61. He was named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll for his performances. Ethan Keating (Wooster, Ohio) placed second in the 3000m, logging a personal-best time of 9:03.30. Ibrahim Hakizimana (Rochester, N.Y.) placed second in the 600m, finishing in 1:25.90. He was also named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll. Fellow freshman Brendan Smukall (Buffalo, N.Y.) came in fourth with a PR of 1:33.86. The Wildcats' 4x400m team of CJ Johnson (Baltimore, Md.), Hakizimana, Brad Tobin (Hamburg, N.Y.), and Smukall logged a seventh-place finish with a time of 3:49.96. In the jump pit, Owen Dernbach (Alden, N.Y.) placed 13th in the long jump, leaping 5.65m. UP NEXT The Wildcats are off next weekend in preparation for the ECC Indoor Championships. The conference championship will take place on Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
