Wildcats Shutout by Ashland on the Road

LEXINGTON, OH -- A two-match road trip in Ohio for the Daemen men's tennis team came to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 loss at the hands of host Ashland University at the Lakewood Club.

Daemen falls to 2-5 on the season, while Ashland improves to 2-3 with the win.

Ashland's first point of the match came by sweeping all three doubles contests. Daemen's No. 1 duo of Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) fell by a 6-4 score, the closest of the three contests.

The Eagles wrapped up the victory with six wins in singles play, all in just two sets of action. Mergen put up an early fight in the No. 2 singles contest before falling 7-5, 6-0, while freshman Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) suffered a 6-1, 7-5 loss at No. 5 despite a strong second-set effort.
