Daemen Links: Roster | Schedule | Stats SMC Links: Roster | Schedule | Stats ON THE ROAD The Daemen women's tennis team hits the road for the first time this spring, traveling to Vermont to play Saint Michael's on Saturday. The Wildcats are currently 3-9, including a 0-4 ECC mark. LAST TIME OUT Daemen fell 7-0 to St. Lawrence at home last Saturday. In doubles, the Wildcats picked up a win at the No. 1 slot, with the team of Marley Conover (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) earning a 6-4 win over Ellie McDermed and Yvett Karera. The Saints won the other two doubles matches to earn the point. In singles action, SLU won all six contests to secure the match. STARTING THE SPRING STRONG Conover is 2-0 in doubles matches this spring. She won 6-4 at the No. 1 with her partner Bjerkan this past Saturday. The freshman also earned a 6-0 win with Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) at No. 1 doubles against West Liberty on Feb. 14. FALL RECAP The Wildcats went 3-7 during the fall campaign, including a 0-4 mark in East Coast Conference matches. Daemen earned wins over Nazareth (5-2), Fredonia (7-0), and Oswego State (7-0). Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Conover both posted 4-7 singles records during the fall. The doubles team of Conover and Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) led the way with a 4-7 mark. GETTING ON THE BOARD During the fall, several Wildcats earned their first wins of the season against Fredonia on Oct. 5. Lily Goodemote (Sauquoit, N.Y.), Armitage, Ashley Bonilla (Flushing, N.Y.), and Dania Mehani (Amherst, N.Y.) all picked up their first singles wins of the season. Nadja Emmendorfer (Clarence, N.Y.) improved to 2-1 in singles, while Baier and Bjerkan also earned wins. Goodemote and Mehani notched their first doubles victory of the year. SCHEDULE OUTLOOK Following Saturday's match, ECC play starts with back-to-back road matches at Queens (March 20) and St. Thomas Aquinas (March 21). After a road match at crosstown rival D'Youville, Daemen concludes the regular season with a home match against the University of the District of Columbia. SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S (6-7, 1-6 NE10) The Purple Knights are searching for their first win of the spring, after dropping a 5-2 decision to Adelphi in an NE10 match last Saturday. SMC also fell 7-0 to St. Lawrence 0-7 on Feb. 13. Saint Michael's went 6-5 during the fall season. Saint Michael's finished 5-11 last season, including a 1-7 record in NE10 play. Olivia Larsen has posted a 10-2 singles record in dual matches, playing at the No. 2 spot. Larsen and doubles partner Ana Maria Ricaurte have logged a 7-6 record at No. 2 doubles. Ricaurte has posted a 7-4 record in dual singles matches, playing primarily at the No. 6 position. SERIES HISTORY The teams will be meeting for just the second time. The Wildcats won the inaugural meeting 6-3 at home back in the fall of 2017. UP NEXT Daemen is off until March 20, when it travels to Queens for its first ECC match of the spring at 1:30 p.m. The Wildcats then take on St. Thomas Aquinas the following day.
