AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team will travel to the Southern Tier for a non-league matchup at St. Bonaventure on Saturday at 10 AM in Olean, N.Y. It marks the second Division I opponent for the Wildcats this season as Daemen opened the season against Niagara on Sept. 21. Daemen comes into Saturday with a 3-8 overall record and are on a two-game skid after falling to St. Lawrence and Saint Michael's. The Wildcats are 1-5 in the spring portion of the season.
The Wildcats dropped their first ever meeting against Saint Michael's, 1-6, on Feb. 28 in Colchester, VT. The Purple Knights won the first point of the match by winning all three doubles pairings. Daemen's sole point on the day came in a three set fight by
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) in No. 2 singles, with the senior taking Saint Michael's Viktor Boban the distance, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. It marked the fourth singles win for Lumanog this season, and it was the first time this season that he has played second singles. Saint Michael's won the other five singles pairings to take the match, 1-6.
With an upperclassmen-heavy team that features four players with at least 20 combined singles/doubles wins in
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands),
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.),
Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) and
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Colombia), Daemen's newcomers have seen the most success in the young season thus far. Sophomore
Riley Fitzgerald (Auburn, N.Y.) and freshman
Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) each have three singles victories this season. Pollack also leads the Wildcats with four doubles wins.
After going 1-18 last season, St. Bonaventure is winless on the year, coming into Saturday's match with a 0-12 record, but they have faced extremely tough competition during the 2026 campaign. With a young roster that features five underclassmen on their seven player team, the Bonnies have won just five total points this season.
Saturday marks the last non-conference match before the Wildcats open East Coast Conference play. Daemen will travel to the city to play at Queens on Friday, March 21 and follow up with a match at St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, March 22.
