Men's Tennis Hosts Queens On Saturday

3/27/2026 5:35:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team will host Queens College in an East Coast Conference match on Saturday, March 28 at 6 PM at the Miller Tennis Center. This will be the second time in eight days that the Wildcats and Knights meet on the court, as Daemen faced Queens last Friday, March 20 in Flushing, N.Y.

The Wildcats are 3-11 overall and 0-2 in ECC matches this season. Daemen dropped their opening ECC weekend last week at Queens (0-7) and St. Thomas Aquinas (0-7). Facing the top two teams in the ECC in one weekend proved a challenge, but the Wildcats fought in both matches. Daemen's No. 1 doubles pairing of Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) put up a fight against Queens' top pair, 3-6. The Wildcats' third doubles pair of Vondin Henderson (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Jordan Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y.) also fought to a 3-6 loss. Queens went on to take all six singles match ups over the Wildcats. At top singles, Lumanog battled with Lucas Foix Sotos, with the Daemen senior ultimately falling 3-6, 3-6 to the standout Queens sophomore. On Saturday, STAC won No. 1 and No. 3 doubles in 0-6 finals. In second doubles, freshman Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) and sophomore Jordan Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y.) battled to a score of 3-6. The Spartans went on to take all six singles pairings to hand Daemen the 0-7 match loss. Playing at second singles, junior Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) faced off against STAC sophomore Theo Renoux and finished with a 2-6, 1-6 final. Pollack played at third singles against Don Vinz Lominoque and battled to a 3-6, 1-6 loss.

Coming off back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament First Round, perennial powerhouse Queens is in the midst of another fantastic season. The Knights boast a perfect 11-0 record on the year and have dominated their competition in every match they've played so far. Queens' roster features six upperclassmen but it's the underclassmen that are taking the reigns this season. The Knights are led by sophomore Adam Laur who has an impeccable 11-1 singles record, and sophomore Samuel Linck has an 8-1 singles record this year.

The Wildcats will travel to play at District of Columbia next weekend (April 3).
