Second-Half Goal Earns Daemen a 1-1 Draw Against Thomas More

AMHERST, N.Y. — Daemen (0-1-1) battled to a 1–1 draw against Thomas More (0-0-2) on Saturday at Royal Park. Despite outshooting the Saints 15-8, the Wildcats secured the draw with a second-half goal on a penalty kick by Macayla Hansen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Thomas More pulled ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute when Ivy Hoffman found the back of the net off a pass from Samantha Aydelott.
  • Hansen tied the game in the 74th minute when she converted a penalty kick to make it 1-1.
  • The Wildcats outshot the Saints 8-5 in the first half. Kaitlin Mettler (Royalton, N.Y.) fired two shots in the 15th minute that were both saved.
  • In the 26th minute, Reese Downey (Hamburg, N.Y.)  ripped a shot from distance that rang off the crossbar.
  • Zainab Khalid (Penfield, N.Y.) had a chance in the 39th minute, but her shot got stopped.
  • The second half began with Daemen maintaining pressure, creating multiple scoring opportunities early on.
  • Mia Wright (Liverpool, N.Y.), Mia Dickens, and Hansen each forced saves in the opening 20 minutes of the half.
  • As time progressed, Daemen's defense stood firm, with Rylee Kumer (Ambridge, Pa.) making critical saves to deny Thomas More.
  • In the 70th minute, Taylor Fiegel (Lockport, N.Y.) hit a shot off the crossbar, and 33 seconds later, Wright had another attempt saved
  • Daemen could not put another in the back of the net, though, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
GAME NOTES
  • Hansnen scored her sixth career goal. It was also her fifth career penalty kick goal after she went four-for-four on PKs for the Wildcats last season.
  • Kumer made three saves in goal.
  • Wright finished with three shots, putting one on target.
  • Mettler contributed offensively with three shots, with two on goal.
  • Khalid put two shots on target.
  • The Wildcats outshot the Saints 15-8, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Daemen also held the edge in corner kicks at 7-3
