Men's Soccer Heads to RWU Wednesday, Welcomes Mercy Saturday

CONTINUING CONFERENCE ACTION
The Daemen men's soccer team (0-5-2) continues ECC play this week. The Wildcats make the short trip down I-90 to play WNY foe Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. Daemen then hosts Mercy on Saturday afternoon in its first home conference tilt. Saturday's game coincides with Daemen's Founders Celebration and Fall Fest.

LAST TIME OUT
Daemen dropped two matches last week. The Wildcats dropped a 7-1 home match to Slippery Rock in its non-conference finale last Wednesday. Stefan Jankovic (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored in the 30th minute from assists by Jordan Nobe (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Keegan Herrmann (Wilson, N.Y.) to make it 2-1. Afonso Abreu (Leiria, Portugal) had an early chance when he fired a shot in the fifth minute, which was saved. Nobe, Fabrizzio Jaramillo (Lynwood, Calif.), and Herrmann also had shots saved. Goalie Colin Hockridge (Scarborough, Ontario) made 10 saves playing all 90 minutes. The Wildcats fell 7-1 at Molloy in their ECC opener last Saturday. Afonso Abreu (Leiria, Portugal) scored his second goal of the season in the 29th minute, putting Daemen on the board and making the score 3-1. Yves Sisse (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned an assist. Daemen responded to the Lions' early outbreak with multiple chances. Abreu forced a diving save in the ninth minute, leading to a Wildcat corner kick. Sincere Noble (Baltimore, Md.) fired a shot in the 19th minute that was stopped by the keeper. Sisse's header was saved in the 79th minute, and Noble fired a shot high a minute later.

CAREER FIRSTS
Several Wildcats have logged career firsts this season. Karim Salome (Logan, Utah) netted his first career goal against Salem while Selim Ozleplebici (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) scored his first against Monroe. Noble scored his first career goal in the season opener against West Liberty. Christian Baker (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Jordan Nobe (Honolulu, Hawaii), Nolan Smith (Ridgeway, Ontario), and Herrmann have all logged their first career point with assists.

NEW GUYS LEADING THE WAY
Abreu has posted two goals and an assist. He scored his second goal of the season against Molloy. The junior transfer now leads the team in points (5) and is tied with Noble for the lead in goals (2). Noble scored his second goal of the season at Saint Anselm.

SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (1-4-2, 0-1 ECC)
The Redhawks are coming off a 3-0 loss to Queens in their ECC opener last Saturday after back-to-back ties against Goldey Beacom (3-3) on Sept. 12 and Slippery Rock (1-1) on Sept. 9. Archie Murphy leads the team in goals (4) and points (9), also having one assist. Davi Moretzsohn is second in goals (2) and points (5) with one assist. Pablo Garcia Alemany and Ewan O'Dwyer-Hall both have two helpers. Goalie Juan Daniel Espinosa Rubio has started all seven games, logging a 1-4-2 record, a .712 save percentage, and a 2.43 goals-against average.

SERIES HISTORY
Roberts Wesleyan leads the all-time series, 20-5-3, and holds a 4-0-1 record over the last five games. Last year, the Redhawks defeated the Wildcats 2-1 in Rochester.

SCOUTING MERCY (5-2-1, 0-1 ECC)
The Mavericks fell 3-2 to St. Thomas Aquians in their ECC opener last Saturday. The loss snapped a four-game win streak after non-conference victories over Bridgeport (2-0), West Chester (3-2), Southern Connecticut State (2-1), and AIC (3-0). Mercy is led in goals (9) and points (21) by Jacob Darwesh Lund-Iversen, who also has three assists. John Hollis leads the squad in assists (5) and is second in goals (3) and points (11). Mario de Roque Zazón and Phillip Hauge have both found the back of the net twice. Goalie Harry Cooke has started five games, posting a 3-1-1 record, a 1.03 goals-against average, and an .808 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercy leads the all-time series against Daemen, which dates back to the 2013 season, 12-0. The Mavericks won 2-0 in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., last season.

UP NEXT
Daemen is back on the road next Saturday (Oct. 3) heading to Staten Island for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
