Daemen Tops Roberts Wesleyan 3-1 on the Road

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Daemen (1-6-2, 1-1 ECC) defeated Roberts Wesleyan (1-5-2, 0-2 ECC) 3-1 on Wednesday evening at Roberts Stadium. The Wildcats put all five of their shots on goal and scored twice in the first half before adding one goal after halftime.  

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Afonso Abreu (Leiria, Portugal) scored for the second straight game and his third goal of the season to put the Wildcats up 1-0 in the 18th minute. Karim Salome (Logan, Utah) earned an assist.
  • In the 37th minute, Tim Florek (Marburg, Germany) made it 2-0 for the Wildcats when he redirected a Fabrizzio Jaramillo (Lynwood, Calif.) free kick.
  • Stefan Jankovic (Reykjavik, Iceland) converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute to give Daemen a three-goal advantage.
  • The Redhawks got on the board in the 82nd minute, making it 3-1.
  • Florek had a chance in the first half when he fired a shot that was saved.
  • In the 33rd minute, Yves Sisse (Phoenix, Ariz.) ripped a shot that was stopped.
  • Goalie Cristopher Vasquez (Sunnyside, N.Y.) stopped two shots in the first half to keep the Redhawks off the board.
  • Roberts Wesleyan pushed through a late stretch with four corner kicks, but Vasquez saved Isaac Simons' shot at 74:10, and the Wildcats kept the score at 3-0.
GAME NOTES
  • Abreu now has a team-leading seven points, with three goals and an assist.
  • Florek scored his first goal of the season and the second of his career. It was also the game-winner, and he put both of his shots on goal.
  • Jankovic's goal was his second of the season and the third of his career.
  • Salome logged his first assist of the season.
  • Vasquez made four saves in the full 90 minutes.
  • The Wildcats fired five shots, putting all five on target.
  • Daemen had one corner kick.
