Wildcats and Purple Knights Battle to Scoreless Draw

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Daemen played Saint Michael's to a 0-0 tie on Thursday at Duffy Field. The Wildcats kept Saint Michael's scoreless over 90 minutes, finishing with four saves as the home side held a 9-7 edge in shots. The Wildcats put two shots on goal and generated four of their seven attempts after halftime.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Wildcats absorbed a sustained Saint Michael's push in the first half, keeping the match scoreless through a stretch that included four Saint Michael's corner kicks and two shots from 24:07 to 29:55.
  • Christian Baker (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had the visitors' first shot of the game in the 13th minute, but put it high.
  • Afonso Abreu (Lisbon, Portugal) put the Wildcats' top chance on frame at 15:37
  • In the 28th minute, Jordan Nobe (Honolulu, Hawaii) ripped a shot that went wide.
  • Cristopher Vasquez (Sunnyside, N.Y.) made two big saves in the  37th and 38th minutes to keep the Purple Knights off the board in the first half.
  • Abreu had another chance in the 56th minute, when he fired a shot wide.
  • The Wildcats generated their main second-half push between 72:06 and 78:30, with Tim Florek (Marburg, Germany) putting two shots wide.
  • Daemen had a corner kick in the 75th minute, and Fabrizzio Jaramillo (Lynwood, Calif.) forced a save from the Purple Knights' keeper in the 78th minute.
  • Vasquez kept Saint Michael's scoreless with saves in the 46th and 85th minutes.
GAME NOTES
  • Colin Hockridge (Scarborough, Ontario) started in goal and played 26 minutes. Vasquez recorded four saves and did not allow a goal in 64 minutes.
  • Abreu shared the team lead with two shots and put one on goal.
  • Florek also finished with two shots for the Wildcats.
  • The Wildcats recorded seven shots, putting two on target.
  • Daemen had three corner kicks.
  • The Wildcats are now 1-1-3 all-time against Saint Michael's.
