AMHERST, NY - Three second half goals by the visiting Walsh Cavaliers spoiled what had the potential to be a promising afternoon for the Daemen Wildcats as they dropped a 4-1 decision to the American Mideast Conference leaders. Walsh improves to 11-1 overall and are yet to suffer a setback in conference play (7-0) while Daemen drops their fifth straight to fall to 3-7, 1-4.
After falling behind 1-0 just 44 ticks into the contest on a tally by the Cavaliers' Chris Lynch, Daemen fought back and played a solid first half, out-shooting Walsh 11-8, including 6-2 in shots on goal. Daemen's
Zakariah Hall knotted the score at 1-1 in the 18th minute when he converted a shot from the right side of the box after a long throw-in from senior
Alvaro Orozco.
The thoughts of an upset were thwarted in an instant early in the second half as Walsh registered back-to-back markers just 52 seconds apart. Broc Sutek put a header to the back of the net after a long crossing feed from Adam Greenwood in the 52nd minute, despite a solid effort from Daemen goalkeeper
Max Drexler. Ben Truax would follow just moments later, in the 53rd minute, to put Walsh comfortably ahead 3-1.
Jordan Semple would add a tally in the 71st minute after Sutek played a through ball to him up the left side to provide the final margin.
The Wildcats will be looking for some redemption when they next hit the pitch this coming Friday at home against conference rival Roberts Wesleyan.
