Two Own Goals Spell Doom In Daemen Loss To Brockport

9/13/2011 7:52:00 PM

BROCKPORT, NY - Two devastating "own goals" spelled doom for the visiting Daemen Wildcats as they dropped a tough 3-1 decision at the hands of the Brockport Golden Eagles this afternoon at Huntley Parker Field. The loss drops Daemen's overall record to 4-2 as both losses have come to opponents from the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Brockport improves to 3-1-1.

"It's a tough pill to swallow, that's for sure," said Daemen head coach Dan Dolan. "The two own goals set us back but we played too inconsistent today. We need to find away to fight through that adversity."

Junior striker Kelsey O'Leary (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia HS) picked up right where she left off after missing Saturday's conference opener at Fisher (MA) due to injury. O'Leary put Daemen on the board in the 4th minute off a feed from senior midfielder Alicia Vasiloff (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa HS). The tally was O'Leary's sixth of the season and the fifth time in her five games played that she's put Daemen ahead 1-0.

Brockport evened the score at 1-1 on the first of Daemen's own goal as the ball deflected off a Daemen defender and into the goal in the 31st minute.

The score remained tied in a nip and tuck affair until disaster struck again for Daemen when a Brockport crossing feed was deflected past Wildcat keeper Kayla Hampton (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter HS). Brockport's Courtney Belding then put the home-standing Golden Eagles up by two with her marker in the 87th minute to put away any thought of a last minute Daemen comeback.

The Wildcats get back at it with two contests this weekend. They'll, first, host conference foe Carlow (PA) at 3pm on Saturday before traveling across town to face local rival Medaille on Sunday.
