ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team opened its 2013 outdoor season today at the University of Rochester Spring Invitational held at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Sophomore sprinter
Jolene Barrett (Avon, N.Y./Avon) paced the Wildcats today with a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash finals, running the race in 13.98 seconds. Barrett qualified with a run of 13.82 seconds in the 100 meter dash preliminaries.
Also fairing well on the track was freshman
Morgan Stefanik (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post West) who finised sixth in the 100 meter hurldes. Stefanik qualified for the finals with a time of 17.48 seconds in the preliminaries. She then ran the finals at 17.58 seconds.
Also grabbing top-10 finishes on the track were freshmen
Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew),
Amanda Rusek (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central) and
Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian). Nolan took eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:36.14 while Rusek and Weir each grabbed ninth place finishes in their respective events. Rusek ran the 400 meter dash in 1:08.90 while Weir legged out the 1500 meter run in 5:15.64.
In field events, junior thrower
Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University) took ninth in the shot put with a toss of 10.03 meters. She was closely followed by teammate
Mariah Burkhard (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) who came in 10th (9.81 meters).
Pinette added a 10th place finish in the discus throw as well (26.93 meters).
The Wildcats' outdoor season continues next Saturday when they'll be back in Rochester for the Roc City Classic hosted by Nazareth College.
