FULL RESULTS
ALFRED, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team amassed 44 points to finish in second place at the Alfred State College Meet today, just 16 points behind meet champion Roberts Wesleyan College.
The meet, which was added to the schedule late to replace the cancelled SUNY Geneseo Open, acted as the Wildcats' last opportunity for competition before the East Coast Conference Championships which are scheduled for April 27-28.
On the track, the Wildcats were once again led by freshmen
Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) and
Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew). Weir bested the all-Daemen field in 1500 meter run with a time of 5:32.77 (Daemen entered all six participants in the event) while Nolan topped the 800 meter field with a time of 2:44.07.
Second place finishes went to Daemen's
Erin Hannah (Newfane, N.Y./Newfane) in the 1500 meter run,
Amanda Rusek (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central) in the 400 meter dash and
Casey Oliphant (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) in the 200 meter dash. Hannah, a sophomore, came in at 5:45.84, while the freshmen Rusek and Oliphant ran their respective races in 1:06.45 and 29.34 seconds.
Alexandra Pace (Williamsville, N.Y./Amherst) finished third in the 800 meter run (2:57.58) while
Jolene Barrett (Avon, N.Y./Avon) took third in the 200 meter dash (30.24 seconds) and fourth in the 100 meter dash (13.96 seconds).
Junior
Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University) claimed victories in both the shot put (10.02 meters) and discus (30.64 meters) to lead the Wildcats in today's field events. She also added a fifth place finish in the hammer throw (34.82 meters).
Chipping in was freshman
Mariah Burkhard (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) who produced a third place finish in the shot put with a toss of 8.84 meters, and a fifth place finish in the javelin throw (23.82 meters). Classmate
Francesca Cutrona (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo State College) added a pair of fourth place showings in the shot put (8.58 meters) and discus (25.28 meters) and a sixth place finish in the hammer throw (25.58 meters).
