BOX SCORE

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Daemen College women's tennis team battled but dropped a 5-4 decision on the road to host Fairmont State University in a non-conference match today.  With the loss, Daemen drops to 4-8 this season, while the Fighting Falcons pick up their second straight win to improve to 4-7.

Coach Stephen Beatty's squad got off to a slow start as they won just one of the three doubles matches to open the match.  Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Tianna Washington (North Chili, N.Y./Monroe CC) teamed up to defeat FSU's Janay Beamer and Alyssa Skidmore at No. 3 doubles by an 8-4 margin.

Trailing 2-1 after the doubles matches, Daemen couldn't fully overcome the deficit as the Wildcats got just three of the four singles points they needed to win the match.

Sophomore Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian), freshman Sarah Crissy (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) and sophomore Maria McGrath (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) picked up the singles victories for Daemen.  Scanlan defeated FSU's Taylor Nichols at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-2) while Crissy took down Kari Amtower (7-5, 6-1) in the No. 5 slot.  McGrath battled FSU's Emily Hart and picked up a three-set victory (6-0, 5-7, 1-0).

Daemen will look to jump back in the win column when the Wildcats travel to West Liberty University for a noon match on Sunday.
