FULL RESULTSCASTILE, N.Y. - Sophomore
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) paced the Daemen College women's cross country team once again today at the 36th Annual Geneseo Invitational held at beautiful Letchworth State Park.
As a team, Daemen accumulated 339 points to sit in 12th place out of 19 competing teams at the 6K race - Daemen's first of that distance this season. 11th-place DeSales University bested Daemen by 33 points. The race hosts from SUNY Geneseo went low with just 35 points to sit atop the team standings. Second-place SUNY Oneonta was well behind with 111 points.
Donahue, the reigning Bedore Tours Student-Athlete of the Month, was the Wildcats' top finisher for the third consecutive race, and for the ninth time in her career to date, running the race in 22:39.8 to finish in 24th place overall out of 286 entrants.Donahue was once again backed up by classmate
Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) who finished in 66th place overall. Rice came in with a time of 23:21.4.
Rounding out the Daemen scorers were freshman
Wendy Neville (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central), junior
Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and sophomore
Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama). Neville cracked into Daemen's top-five for the third time in four races this season, finishing in 103rd place overall (24:09.4). Nolan (24:26.0) and Denton (24:46.4) came in 117th and 147th places, respectively.
Daemen will take next weekend off before traveling to northern Ohio for the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday, Oct. 18. That race represents the Wildcats' final tune-up before the East Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8.
