Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and
Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) led the Daemen College women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish, out of nine competing teams, at the East Coast Conference Championships hosted on campus by Roberts Wesleyan College today. Â Daemen accumulated 91 points to sit comfortably ahead of fifth-place Molloy College (140 points).
Roberts Wesleyan placed all five of its scorers in the top-13 finishers in the 5K race to win the conference title, amassing just 27 points. Â St. Thomas Aquinas College finished in second place with 52 points.
Donahue and Rice have consistently been Daemen's top two runners all season long, and that trend continued today. Â Donahue finished in eighth place with a season-best 5K time of 18:45.3, while Rice also turned in a season-best with her time of 19:11.9 which was good for 11th place. Â For their efforts, Donahue and Rice each earned second team all-conference honors.
Rounding out Daemen's scorers was freshman
Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst), senior
Noelle Thompson (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and sophomore
Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama). Â Trabert (20:13.8) and Thompson (20:18.2) earned top-30 finishes, coming in 28th and 30th, respectively, with Thompson's time being a season-best. Â Denton wasn't far behind, finishing in 35th place with her season-best time of 20:32.7.
Today's race marked the final entry in the career of Thompson who has been a staple of coach
Jessica Gorski's squad over the previous few seasons.
Talya Williams of Long Island University Post won the race outright with her time of 18:23.7, edging out last year's winner, Gladys Kimutai, who finished in second place with her time of 18:24.4.
