MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - The Daemen College women's tennis team suffered its third defeat in as many days, falling in non-conference action today, 9-0, to host Post University at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club.
With the non-league loss, Daemen falls to 4-9 on the season. Â Post, a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, snaps a two-match slide with today's win, improving to 9-3 overall this year.
The host Eagles opened play today by running through doubles competition. Â Daemen's
Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and
Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) teamed up for the second-straight day in the top doubles position, and put up the best fight among Daemen's three doubles pairings, but fell to PU's Liza Dubrovskaya and Madison Young, 8-3.
Attempting to comeback in singles play, Daemen found themselves in several competitive matchups, but all went the way of the hosts.
In the No. 1 singles slot, Scanlan battled Diana Perez in a tough first set, falling 7-5, followed by a 6-1 second-set win for Perez to seal the point for PU.
Robins appeared in the No. 3 singles position, falling to Young, 6-4, 6-3. Â Fellow freshman
Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) fell in the No. 4 singles slot, 6-2, 6-4, to PU's Brianna Miah.
It was sophomore
Sarah Crissy (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) who represented Daemen's best opportunity to avoid the shutout today, as she took her No. 5 singles match to three sets. Â But, the point would eventually go to PU's Sarah Namazi, winning the matchup 6-1, 4-6, 13-11.
Senior
Aman Shamaa (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) appeared in singles play for the second time this season, but fell in the No. 6 position, 6-3, 6-1, to Jessica Bergen.
Daemen was again without the services of junior
Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo). Â She missed her second-straight match with an injury after appearing in the top singles and doubles positions in all 11 previous matches.
Daemen returns to non-conference play this Wednesday, October 14 when they host Houghton College at 5:30 p.m. at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.
