BOX SCORETAMPA, Fla. - The Daemen College women's tennis team concluded its four-match trip to the Gulf Coast today, falling 9-0 to Catawba College. The loss drops the Wildcats to 8-15 overall this year while Catawba, an affiliate of NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference, jumped over .500 for the season at 7-6 overall.
Today's result marks the first time Daemen has been shutout in its last nine matches, dating back to last October.
The Wildcats' best chance to avoid the shutout came in the No. 1 doubles position where
Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and
Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) battled valliantly before falling to the Indians' Liz Renteria and Kristen Rocko, 8-5.
Hollins, Scanlan and
Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) all won games in their respective singles matches, but not enough to push their counterparts from Catawba.
Coach
Stephen Beatty's squad wraps up its 2014-15 season by hosting Central State University on Friday, Mar. 20 at Miller Tennis Center with the match set for 7 p.m.
