Men's Tennis Falls In Florida Finale

BOX SCORE

TAMPA, Fla. - The Daemen College men's tennis team closed out its six-match trip to the Gulf Coast by suffering an 8-1 defeat to Southeastern University this afternoon at the University of Tampa Tennis Complex.  The loss today sends Daemen to 5-8 overall on the season while the native Floridians from Southeastern jumped to 9-2.

SU established a 3-0 lead after sweeping through doubles play to open the match.  That included a hard-fought 8-6 win in the No. 2 doubles slot by SU's Jordan Harris and Patrick Kearney over the Wildcats' Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) and John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda).

In singles play, it was sophomore Ethan Wincowski (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George) who put the Wildcats on the board with his straight-sets victory (6-3, 7-5) in the No. 6 position over SU's Nick Ripoli.  The win closed out a fine trip for Wincowski who went 3-3 in singles matches this week.

Kerr took the first set in his No. 5 singles match vs. Nathan Gangelhoff but the SU sophomore battled back, winning the second set, 6-4, and the third-set tie-breaker, 1-0.

Daemen looks to regroup when they host University of the District of Columbia in their East Coast Conference opener.  That match is slated for Saturday, March 21 at 12:30 p.m. from Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville.
