ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team saw five of its competitors finish in the top 16 of the 800-meter run today while partaking in the ROC City Classic hosted by Nazareth College at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Led by sophomore
Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) who finished as the 800-meter runner-up (2:19.62), Daemen dominated the event which also saw sophomore
Brittany Denton earn a top-10 finish (ninth) with her time of 2:27.88. Â Junior
Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew) ran a season-best time of 2:30.04 to finish in 11th. Â Rounding out the Daemen dominance was
Anna Lyons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), who recorded a personal-record time of 2:31.46, and Lindsay Wood (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) who came in just behind at 2:31.96, finishing 15th and 16th respectively.
Also making waves on the track today was sophomore long-distance runner
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) who earned a runner-up finish in the 1500-meter run. Â Donahue raced the event in 4:56.86 today. Â
In sprints, freshman
Kailyn Szymanski (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) was the 15th-place finisher in the 400-meter dash (1:04.27). Â She was joined in the top 20 by sophomore
Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) who came in 20th (1:05.68). Â May added a 23rd-place finish in the 200-meter dash as well, running that race in 29.00 seconds flat.
In field events today, thrower
Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College) finished seventh in the javelin, putting forth a throw of 24.98 meters. Â Teammate
Ashley Krol (Depew, N.Y./Depew) was the 12th-place performer in the long jump with a long leap of 4.54 meters, and
Jillian Sosnowski (Depew, N.Y./Depew) finished in 19th place in the triple jump (9.28 meters).
Today's meet represented the final tune-up for the Wildcats who will participate in the 2015 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week. Â That event is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
