BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Daemen College men's tennis team closed out a three-match weekend with a 7-2 loss at Bloomsburg University in non-conference action today at Burt Reese Tennis Center. With the loss, Daemen falls to 6-16 on the season while the host Huskies, a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference affiliate, improve to 5-11.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping through today's doubles matches, all by identical 8-3 scores. Gilberto Machado and Jean Paul Jones downed Daemen's
Joey Gentile (East Amherst, N.Y./Niagara University) and
Gregory Lowe (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) in No. 1 doubles; Mike DiSanto and Scott Langenbach scored a win in No. 2 doubles vs. Daemen's
Adam Kerr (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) and
Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford); and, Nenyi Micah and Christian Coffee took down the Wildcats'
John LeMar (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and
John Wilson (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) in No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Daemen picked up victories from Lowe and LeMar in the No. 2 and 4 slots, respectively. Lowe defeated Machado 6-1, 6-4, for his eighth singles victory of the season, one off the team lead of Veitengruber. LeMar earned his sixth singles win of the season, defeating Langenbach 6-0, 6-1.
Veitengruber, vying for his 10th singles win of his freshman campaign, came up just short in No. 3 singles vs. DiSanto. DiSanto took the first set 7-5 before Veitengruber dominated the second, winning 6-1. DiSanto regrouped and took the one-game, third-set tie-break, 1-0.
With today's match in the books, Daemen will officially close its 2014-15 season by hosting St. John Fisher College for a non-conference match this Friday, April 24. That match is set for a 4 p.m. start at the Ellicott Tennis Courts on the campus of the University at Buffalo.
