BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team closed out its 2015 schedule by taking part in the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational here today.
Sophomores Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), and freshman Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) all picked up wins on the track today.
Rice placed first among 21 runners during the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.14, pacing a host of Wildcat mid-distance runners who fared well in the race. Â Daemen placed four runners among the top six finishers in the 800-meter run. Sophomore Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield Alabama) finished third (2:27.47), freshman Lindsey Wood (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) finished fifth (2:29.09) and graduate student Anna Lyons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) finished sixth (2:29.57).
Rice also posted a time of 4:53.46 and placed third out of 23 runners in the 1,500-meter run.
Donahue picked up a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the first time she's entered that particular race as a collegian. Â Donahue ran the only sub-12-minute time of the race (11:38.87), bettering second-place finisher Elizabeth Wall (12:44.88) of Buffalo Sate College by more than a minute.
Trabert's victory came in the 5,000-meter run, finishing the race with a time of 19:09.85. Â Teammate Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) added a third-place finish in the same race (20:02.59).Â
Additional highlights included Top-15 finishes by juniors Jillian Sosnowski (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and Brooke Nolan (Depew, N.Y./Depew), sophomore Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) and freshman Luz Mota (Bronx, N.Y./University Heights). Â Sosnowski placed ninth in the 100-meter dash with her time of 13.99 seconds; she was followed by Mota who came in 10th (14.03 seconds), while also adding a 13th-place finish in the 200-meter dash (30.45 seconds). Â May came in 11th in the 200-meter dash (28.72 seconds), and Nolan was a 13th-place performer in the 1,500-meter run (5:27.90).
